Are you worried how to get the police clearance certificate without stress? If yes, then we have good news for you today. Get ready to learn the easiest way to get you police clearance certificate (PCC).
What is Police Clearance Certificate?
Police Character Certificate/Report is another name for the Police Clearance Certificate (PCC). In essence, it attests to the holder’s lack of criminal history in Nigeria.
Although overseas applicants are also granted this certificate if they have been in Nigeria for at least 30 days, it is less common.
Both Nigerians and non-Nigerians seeking this service can try to apply on the Nigerian Police Specialized Services Automation Project/Platform (POSSAP) by clicking HERE.
However, on this page, we are concentrated on Nigerian citizens who need the PCC for investments, visas, or other activities abroad.
Does the Nigerian Consular Mission Issue the Police Clearance Certificate?
Police Character Certificates are NOT issued by the Nigerian Consular Mission. However, for a price, certain Nigerian missions will submit applications on behalf of applicants for police background checks.
Following the acquisition and legalization of the Police Clearance Certificate in Nigeria, the actual responsibility of the Nigerian Consular Mission in the process is authentication.
Nigerians who want this certificate are therefore urged to apply either in person or through a proxy (family member or friend) to the Nigerian Police Forensic Department, Alagbon Close, Lagos.
To easily apply, you can CLICK HERE, saving you the hassle.
PCC Application Method
It is pertinent to note that how someone applies, from where they apply, and for what reason all affect the process.
Before delivering the sealed information and other prerequisites to the Nigerian Police Force Criminal Investigations Department (FCID) for the background check, the Nigerian applicant must collect his or her biometric data from the local police in various European nations.
Many other nations do not demand this action. But in any situation, the normal stages are as follows:
- Obtain the CID Fingerprint Form and complete it. Fill up with black ink only and black fingerprints.
- Provide information to the Force Criminal Investigation Department. The address is Alagbon Close, Ikoyi, Lagos, Nigeria, Central Criminal Registry, FCID. You can send a friend or relative if you are unable to travel there.
- Comply with any additional criteria that could be necessary (in each individual case, do so).
- If the applicant is being represented by family, a video call may be used for the interview.
- If everything goes as planned, the PCC will be granted in 1 to 4 weeks.
Authentication by PCC
You need the following to authenticate the document in the Nigerian Embassy, High Commission, or Consulate in the host country of your domicile after the procedure is finished in Nigeria and you have obtained the Police Character Certificate and Legalized it in the Federal Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Abuja:
- Two duplicates of the passport data page.
- A duplicate of the printed Fingerprint form.
- Address proof in the country of lodging.
- Status as a resident of the host nation.
- A self-addressed envelope (for Nigerians living in the EU).
- Administration Charges
- Any further needs expressed by the Nigerian Mission.
The general process and prerequisites are as stated above. However, each instance requires a somewhat different application.
The applicant must still have precise instructions from the department requesting the PCC. However, feel to reach us HERE to guide you more and even make this process much easier than stated above.
